GREAT NEWS!
We are collecting used book donations again.  Our new plan to stay in business is the sale of new and used books on the internet.  I know this doesn't sound revolutionary, but until I could figure a way to put all our new books online, it seemed hopeless.  We are using Alibris to sell our books.  So donate your gently used books to the store.  Clear out those shelves for more books.

Simple Action, New Earth
This is a new section of the newsletter with actions we can take to improve the balance of the planet.

Action 10:  The bees are disappearing in the United States.  It was on 60 minutes, it's been in the media for a year.  The bee hives on organic farms are healthy and thriving.  When the bees are gone, the food will be gone.  Buy organic every time; no exceptions.   Save the bees, save your future on the planet.  Not so simple, write to congress to ban the insecticides destroying the bees.

Action 11:  Plant organic gardens in your backyard.  The average backyard garden pollutes the environment ten times more than one acre of commerical agriculture.  We overfertilize and use too much insecticide in our home gardens.  Go organic at home.

See the other simple actions on the website.

Book Reviews

Empire
by Orson Scott Card
$7.99

This is different from the usual books I recommend.  Even though this is a science fiction book, it tells about the polorized forces in America today that leads us into another civil war.  The book points out that America is much more divided now than before the last civil war.  It is a good read and lets us know what the twenty year olds are reading.

Original Story

Aphrodite Revisited
by Judith Bakkensen

Aphrodite looked at the old woman from behind her mother.
The old woman said, "You watch that child like a hawk.  She is too good looking and there are so many perverts out there.  And especially don't trust your relatives."
The wise woman said, "What a beautiful daughter, we will all watch over her and keep her safe."

Aphrodite was doing the dishes.
The woman in the next room said, "I'll bet your daughter drives the boys crazy with those eyes."
The wise woman in the next room said, "How wonderful that Aphrodite helps out so much around the house."

Aphrodite was in college.
The jock said,  "Why are you with that ugly loser when you could be with me."
The young man said,  "Aphrodite, who is your friend?"

Aphrodite was outside her new apartment.
The drunk uncle said, "I see the different cars of all your boyfriends in front of your apartment," as he fondled her breasts.
The kind uncle said, "I see you are dating, if you need any help or advice, I live right around the corner."

Aphrodite was getting married.
The groom said, "Who are these guys, I don't like them looking at you."
The love of her life said, "You look beautiful today."

Aphrodite was at work.
The guy at the copier said, "I watch you all the time.  I don't care if you are married. I want you."
The friend at work said, "I really enjoy working with you.  You are a great asset to our work environment."

Aphrodite was talking with her manager.
The manager said, "Do you really want to turn him in for harrassment, think of his wife."
The truly wonderful boss said, "You've got to be kidding, he will be gone within the hour.  You'll never have to deal with him again."

Aphrodite got a big promotion.
The co-worker said, "With her looks, she'll always get ahead."
The collegue said,  "I'm so happy for you, you've worked so hard and really deserve it.  Let's go celebrate."

Aphrodite was pregnant.
The husband said, "This is the worst day of my life, now you'll get fat."
The love of her life said,  "This is the best day of my life,  I love you so much."

When Aphrodite became an elder.
Aphrodite met a beautiful young girl.  "Hello, my name is Aphrodite, what's yours."
