Sisters
by Judith Bakkensen
It's fun to visit my sister, Carol. As I get closer
to Eugene, I begin to relax. The drive is almost over. We run up and
hug each other. She aggressively works the driving knots out of my back
with her powerful fingers. We hurry up and unpack the car and settle in.
Everyone talks at once. She introduces us to new friends in the kitchen as
we dive into tea and cookies. Usually, there is a note for us in case
Carol has gets too sleepy waiting. She never does. I read it out
loud. Later, we go up to her room and we talk seriously. Just the
two of us. I share my pure heart with her. She shares her life and
love with me. We cry. We hold each other. We laugh a lot. We catch
up. Eventually we are interrupted by a man, Michael or her sweet Bob.
That's O.K. We'll talk later.
